Fault-Line River Project
The incising Linville River careening and plunging through the gorge inspired me to make these images. Mountain-building shifts in the land caused one-billion-year-old granite to be pitched up and over younger, softer, 700-million-year-old metamorphosed sandstone. The river, ceaselessly eroding the softer rock out from under the granite over time, has carved out the Linville Gorge one of the deepest gorges in the United States.
